about

A compilation of original tracks by Eastbourne based artists to raise funds for Citizens Advice Eastbourne.

Every year, this local charity helps thousands of people find ways to overcome to problems they are facing. With a large team of volunteers they help bring in millions of pounds of additional income to the people of the town and help protect the vulnerable. They also campaign to improve the series and policies which affect people's lives.

Comments from contributing acts:

Del Monaghan – Truth Seeking Missiles
I wrote this song for the daughters of Maria Smith, who was killed by a senseless accident. It is a message of hope, saying that we can overcome our greatest setbacks. The Citizens Advice Bureau are always there for people when they go through hard times and I salute them and welcome this chance to help give them something back.

Amanda Thompson - The Big Believe
My song was written during sessions for our "Illuminate" album but didn't make it onto the album as it didn't fit with the other tracks.  It is about wanting a friend that you care for to make the best version of themselves that they can.
I was glad this song now had a purpose - to go on this charity CD, as I've seen the CAB help so many people who could not receive that help anywhere else.  You would not want to live in a town without a Citizen's Advice Bureau, trust me.  Support the volunteers.

Wayne Windmill - Now Zero
The song is a virtual out-take from our second album ‘Year of the Crab’ which was about coping with cancer. Imagine a drive-in sci-fi B-Movie meets The Day of The Dead festival type scenario. It’s hot; sexy but deeply weird. People are wearing strange things on their heads. Or their heads are strange things. You feel relieved and deeply guilty.
We wanted to put our song on this album for 2 reasons, to be honest. Firstly, there is almost nothing more important than living compassionately and Citizens Advice Eastbourne is a great local example of people manifesting compassion in their work and deserves as much support as it can get. Secondly, original music is increasingly marginalised by talent show pop and tribute/covers acts so it is great to be part of a project that brings creative musicians together and provides a platform for them to be heard. I like that the song has an obtuse seaside theme as it’s for an Eastbourne charity and it also resonates oddly with our latest album called ‘Dead in the Water’.

Scott Hendrie – Fullmarx
I’m Fullmarx, a Singer Songwriter, Rapper and Producer. My song is about the stress of life and how easy it can be to escape if you exercise your imagination. I'm buzzing to be able to contribute something to help CAB.

Matt Cooper
This tune came about from nowhere other than my love for the music, and compositional appreciation of Preston Reed. Reed’s music inspired me to pursue musical avenues that I never thought could be possible, especially on one solitary guitar, back in 2005, and have spent the past twelve years learning the art of rhythmical acoustic guitar; employing the odd technique from my bass playing exploits along the way to try and create music that is fun and for the people, not just guitar musicians.
I was honoured to be asked to contribute to this compilation. Citizens Advice do such a phenomenal job every year helping the good folk of Eastbourne and its boroughs, so it’s nice to be able to contribute a little something in return.

Sam Whimpenny - Porvari
I used to work for a global IT Company who are obsessed with the possibility of Total Control.  As most more rational people realise there is always at least an element of negotiation and leeway in getting anything to a conclusion.  This song is, I hope, an ironic interpretation of some actual statements made in the very best project management vernacular. Needless to say we didn’t succeed!
CAB has always been a vital part of the support mechanism for people from all walks of life in this country. There has never been a more pressing need for its services than now. We are very pleased to be able to support this worthiest of causes.

Ben Westwood
I wrote this song for my late wife Carolina when we were together. It's about the ups, downs and quirks of our relationship. Some of the lines used to make her laugh ("You drive me crazy" for example).
I think music is most powerful when it has a meaning and a purpose so I like to be involved in charity projects. I think a lot of people are still going through tough times with a difficult economic climate for nearly a decade now. Hopefully the music will raise spirits and raise some much-needed proceeds.

Liz Pearson - Pocketsize
The CAB provide a service that helps to alleviate the stress of everyday difficult situations that people are faced with when there is nowhere else to turn. Human Touch is hopefully an uplifting song about togetherness and I wrote it at a time of personal grief.

Si McLean – On the Meter
I'm SI McLean, solo singer songwriter. I wrote On The Meter at a time when I was broke and sometimes I would run out of money on my electricity key which meant I would have to spend an evening in the dark. I'm happy to be able to contribute a track to help raise money for the CAB who help hundreds of people in financial difficulty every year.

Keith Rodway – Necessary Animals
'Sunshine mutant pop from Hastings' Necessary Animals. A celebration of life and the mysteries of love. Featuring the delicate vocals of Ingvild Deila. Percussion by Simon Carterton. Mixed by Fritz Catlin from 23 Skidoo.
'I think the Citizens Advice Bureau do important work in the community in increasingly challenging times and I'm delighted to have this opportunity to support them'.

The Cuban Boys
The version of The Menshevik Machine on this compilation is a wonderfully re-imagined remix of the track from our recent album 'Machines'.   Placed within the context of a fictional revolution, the words portray a semi-autobiographical tale of the Cuban Boys' rapid ascension within the music industry.   The song is a metaphor for society, a reminder that all people have worth and their collective spirit is the greatest asset in creating a better world. In often bleak times, it is a song of hope and optimism
The Cuban Boys fully support and appreciate everything Citizens Advice undertakes as a small charity and our contribution is just one tiny atom of help to a very worthy cause. Joining with other likeminded creative people to raise much-needed funds for Citizens Advice is a perfect example of the collective spirit working together in a positive way, something we are always more than happy to do.

Network 23 – Bubbling Under
We make improvised ambient electronic music using laptops and other gadgets. This track was an old one which we revamped and includes a Chinese violin and a sample from Alan Watts.
We are happy to contribute to a compilation that will raise funds for the CAB in Eastbourne. They contribute a huge amount to the community.
